Protecting Your Small Business Against Cyberhacking

Whether it’s a social media page, bank account, or other personal
records, cyber hackers find innovative ways to access sensitive information for
personal gain.  Conversely, Its not only
individuals that are victimized by these unconscionable acts, but the small
businesses community that uses the internet to conduct business with their
customers.
According to a study conducted by The Ponemon Institute,
more than half of all small and mid-sized businesses experience a data breach
causing the organization to lose valuable data which can’t be retrieved.
Several cyber security firms hosted a seminar for the small business community to educate them on best practices to avoid cyber theft.  Some of the suggested methods included:
encrypting all company data, using an independent financial online tool separate
from an email and social media account to manage financial records,
establishing an alternative authentication system to verify your identity by
phone beyond using an online password, and drafting a data security policy for
all employees to review.
Cyber hackers can strike at any time which can negatively
affect small businesses. Since most transactions are conducted online, this
often leaves sensitive financial data accessible for criminals. With the
holidays serving as a huge period for e-commerce, small businesses have to be
vigilant when it comes to protecting their company and customers interest.
