Small Business Organization Initiative Geared Toward Hiring Youths

Finding a job is an arduous task for many young Americans.  Whether in school or recent graduate, the
prospect for career opportunities seems grim.
Considering the economy is still reeling, most young people are left wondering
what they can do to secure a job opportunity, while small businesses are
challenged with finding qualified workers to help their company’s financial
growth.
One state feeling the brunt of a high unemployment rate
among its young population and hiring issues facing the small business
community is Oregon. In an effort to combat this issue, Small BusinessMajority, a national business organization founded and operated by small business
owners, is launching an initiative calling for small business owners to make a
commitment to facilitate job opportunities for young people.
The plan calls for small business employers to increase the
number of youths hired within their organizations, an increase in internship
positions, and the development of a mentoring program to give young people hands-on-experience
in a job.
Closing the unemployment gap within the younger generation
is a critical step to U.S. economic growth.
The hope is this initiative developed by the Small Business Majority will
lead to more programs nationwide to assist young people in finding jobs and
small business owner looking to fill positions.
