Their initiative. Anyone in the military learns to follow orders. But they also understand that there are situations when they need to take action in the absence of orders. If something needs to be done, they don’t have to wait to be told.
Leadership and teamwork skills: Veterans typically have led colleagues, accepted direction from others and operated as part of a small team.
Loyalty. Veterans are committed to the organizations they work for, which can translate into longer tenure.
The study titled Hiring Heroes: Employer Perceptions, Preferences, and Hiring Practices Related to U.S. Military Personnel, was based on surveys of 800 hiring managers across a range of industries.
These employers said that veterans possess skills and attributes that help their on-the-job performance. Specifically, the hiring managers cited leadership and team-building skills: which are not only transferable to civilian positions, but are highly valued.
If you are a small business owner, hiring veterans is a smart decision.
